Touring Boulder, Colorado: Fun Summer Activities

Boulder, Colorado consistently ranks as one of the best places to live in the United States. Its outdoor recreation is unmatched, the weather is wonderful, and our city’s downtown offers ample amenities like fine dining restaurants, charming boutiques, and unique bars. This summer, dig into all that Boulder has to offer and get to know these picturesque foothills-city. Here’s what we’re most looking forward to over the next few months.

Tube Boulder Creek

One of Boulder’s mantelpiece natural features – Boulder Creek – flows right through the heart of town. This small yet powerful body of water features pool-drop rapids that are perfect for cruising over in an inflatable innertube or blow-up kayak. Be sure to wear a helmet and PFD as the creek is still swiftly moving. First-timers can consult this handy guide for optimal flows and safety tips.

Paddle Board Gross Reservoir

This spot grows in popularity as the summer heats up. Nestled up Flagstaff Road, simply getting to Gross Reservoir involves scenic mountain driving and epic views. Stop off at viewpoints along the way and snap pictures of downtown Boulder far off in the distance. Rent a paddle board, pack a picnic, and plan to spend the day enjoying this high-elevation reservoir. Show up early on the weekends and popular holidays to ensure a parking spot.

Hike at NCAR

Park at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and hit the trails to explore some of Boulder’s lesser trafficked terrain. Shanahan Ridge Trail is an easy to navigate, scenic hike that offers views of the Flatirons, meadows speckled with wildflowers, and a chance to get off the beaten path. Ambitious hikers can link many trails together and explore Mallory Cave, Bear Canyon, and Royal Arch all in a day.

Dine on Pearl Street

Taco Tuesday at T/ACO is a must for any Boulder local or new-to-town resident. This unassuming taco spot just one block from Pearl has killer margaritas, patio dining, and tasty food. Those interested in splurging can reserve a table at Frasca Food and Wine or Black Cat for high-end dining complete with special wines, award-winning menus, and locally-sourced ingredients.

Boulder Farmers Market

Rated as one of the best farmers markets in the country, the Boulder Farmers Market takes over downtown each Saturday. Shop for local produce, meet area farmers, and enjoy hand-made goods all from beautiful and scenic downtown Boulder. Food trucks, beverage carts, and live music makes this farmers market more of an event rather than a simple weekend errand. Connect with locals, try new cuisine, and support local business, all in one location.
