festivities to celebrate the season. In our beautiful state, September is the
perfect month for venturing out to explore the stunning changing of the leaves.
If you’d like to explore a fall color drive route or two, check out a few of
our favorite scenic drives. Whether you’d prefer to stay close to your apartmentin Boulder or enjoy a road trip across the state, you’ll
find an option for you here:
Trail Ridge Road
Trail Ridge Road winds
its way through the idyllic alpines in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Along this route, you’ll see bursts of vivid color from the foliage. This route
is just an hour’s drive from Boulder, and while you’re here, there’s plenty
more to see. Estes Park and Grand Lake are nearby, so you can go for a walk
through the historic districts and check out charming local restaurants and
shops.
Flat Tops Trail
If you’re interested in a trek across the
state, don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore Flat Tops Trail. This
stretch of road is in a more secluded area than the popular Flat Tops Byway and
is nestled between two national forests. During this remote trip through scenic
northwestern Colorado, you’ll pass by several lakes in addition to the
spectacular autumnal colors.
Independence Pass
On the way to Aspen? Be sure to take the route
through Independence Pass. This
breathtaking trail is the second-highest pass in Colorado and comes with the
convenience of an improved road. The small town of Twin Lakes is nearby, which
is home to two gorgeous lakes and a ghost town that’s perfect for exploring in
the fall.
Highway of Legends
Southern Colorado provides beautiful views,
and the Highway of Legends is an
excellent destination for those hoping to experience the unforgettable sight of
the Sangre de Cristos and Spanish Peaks. This 82-mile stretch of highway winds
through the San Isabel National Forest, so
there are plenty of opportunities to stop and explore along the way.
