They don’t call our state colorful Colorado for no reason.
Each season brings a gorgeous rainbow of shades to every corner of the mountain
west. Autumn is perhaps the most enchanting season, as its paintbrush speckles
the foothills and
mountains with hues of yellow, gold, and orange. To embrace the changing of
seasons and take advantage of all our state has to offer, partake in some of
the following favorite fall past times.
Pick a Pumpkin
Patches bursting with orange gourds abound along Colorado’s
Front Range. Boulder County is home to ample farms, each with their own unique
smattering of pumpkins. Make a Saturday of it and visit one of the myriad
homesteads, hobby farms, and working agricultural operations in Boulder,
Longmont, Lafayette, or Lyons. Meet the animals that also call this place home,
go for a hayride, and get lost in a corn maze. The choices are endless, and
your day will be packed with cute photos and treasured memories.
Frolic Amongst the Aspens
Squeeze in the last hike amongst gorgeous aspen trees, which
take these months to turn their silvery-green leaves into gold medallions.
Aspen groves are truly remarkable in that they are singular, living organisms
connected by their roots. Our state has countless aspen trees throughout its
mountains and foothills. Boulder is just a stone’s throw from breathtaking
hikes in Rocky Mountain National
Park and the Indian Peaks
Wilderness.
Fall Festivals
So many of Colorado’s charming mountain enclaves take this
season to throw fall festivals of epic proportions. Clink beer steins with
friends in lederhosen at Brecktoberfest or
sip, sample, and dine at one of the many food and wine-focused festivals along
the Front Range. You can even enjoy BANFF Film
Festival at the end of October from the comfort and convenience of your home.
Stroll or Bike Through Boulder
Fall is one of the best times to catch Boulder in all its
glory. Walk through Mapleton
Hill’s historic neighborhood and catch old-growth trees ablaze with color. Wonderland Lake
offers views of the foothills as they transition from summer to fall. You can
even host your own brewery bike tour and see the entire city easily from LoBo
Trail and the Boulder
Creek Path.
Catch a Final Farm Dinner
Autumn is also the final harvest season for most of the
family-run farms throughout Boulder County. Reserve a spot at a beloved farm
dinner to enjoy fresh fall produce plucked straight from the field. Ollin Farms still has spots
available for its October farm dinners, but don’t wait. Seats at the communal
table fill up quickly.
