Starting New Year’s On The Right Foot

It’s almost that time of year again—to say goodbye to the old and usher in the new with open arms. As 2024 sashays across the calendar and into your life, there are several ways to make sure it treats you right from the get-go. Consider the following tips:

Set a Resolution...or Don’t!

Making a New Year’s resolution is a tradition for many. If this is effective in meeting your goals, then resolve away! But resolutions aren’t useful for everyone, so don’t get swept up in the Auld Lang Syne of it all. Follow your own path, instead! If you want to lose weight, get in shape, or save more money in 2024, you don’t need anything official to make it happen.

Declutter Your Life

Tidying up your living room, donating old items, and cleaning out your closets will certainly make your home more organized, but decluttering doesn’t just offer surface-level benefits…there are plenty of mental health perks, as well. It can lead to less stress, higher self-esteem, improved focus, and increased well-being. A decluttered home also gives you and your partner fewer things to fight about.

Make a 2024 To-Do List

A year goes by in the blink of an eye. One second, you’re ringing in the new year, and the next, you’re preparing for the holidays all over again. Because of this, it’s easy for the year to get away from you, preventing you from accomplishing all you hoped. To make your year as productive as possible, get a head start by writing out a to-do list of whatever you want 2024 to look like. This can include big-ticket items (like getting a new job) or small acts (like joining a knitting club).

Set a Goal That’s Fun

Many people start the year by focusing on things that they feel they “need” to do (such as eating healthier or downsizing). But mixing in things that are pleasure-filled and rewarding (such as a trip to Mexico, buying a new car, or signing up for a monthly massage) can make you more likely to stick to the not-so-fun things, as well.

Resolve to Read More Books

Not everyone is a reader (but since you’re reading this article, let’s assume you are). Reading, for book lovers, is a way to escape, expand the imagination, and engage in self-care. Unfortunately, it’s also something that often falls by the wayside as soon as life gets busy. Centering books, even if your goal is just to read one novel every two or three months, keeps you focused on Falkner and wowed by Woolf.

A new year is the perfect time for a new you…or the same you with a few new tweaks. Whether you want to overhaul your life or embrace some minor changes, these tips are a simple way to make sure you’re ready to party in 2024.
