Our Favorite Road Trip Routes in America

Roadtripping is a quintessential summer activity. It’s even more memorable when you choose a route with incredible scenery, landmarks, or history. If you’re thinking about hitting the road for some sightseeing this season, consider checking out a few of the most beloved routes in America. Whether you’re hoping to stay close to your apartment in Boulder, or you’re planning a cross-country adventure, these iconic routes are perfect for exploring this summer:

Trail Ridge Road in Colorado

Need to stay close to home? Trail Ridge Road winds through Rocky Mountain National Park and is only about an hour’s drive from Boulder. This scenic route is the highest continually paved road in the United States and offers breathtaking views of the Continental Divide. Route 12 in Utah  

If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path route, Route 12 in Utah is an expedition worth braving. This 124-mile stretch winds through Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon National Parks and provides spectacular views of the red rocks. If you need to stop for a pick-me-up, Kiva Koffeehouse is located along this route and is an excellent place to pop in for coffee while you peruse the artwork and marvel at the Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument.

Route 6 in Massachusetts 

In the mood for a change of scenery and mild weather? Embark on the journey across Route 6 in Massachusetts and enjoy the state’s famous beaches, dunes, and fishing towns. From Massachusetts, Route 6 (also known as the Mid-Cape Highway) meanders along for 118 miles through Provincetown, Massachusetts to Providence, Rhode Island with plenty of opportunities to stop by the bayside for whale-watching tours or other beachy activities.

Highland Lakes Bluebonnet Trail in Texas

The Lone Star State offers plenty of room for exploring the roads, and the Highland Lakes Bluebonnet Trail is a must-see. This route winds its way through the waterfront communities of Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay, where you’ll enjoy views of Lake Buchanan. While you’re driving through these historic hill country towns, stop by Bluebonnet Cafe for pie and all-day breakfast.
