Holiday Events in Boulder, Colorado

From roasting chestnuts on an open fire to dashing through the snow, the holidays tend to be packed with activities. The Boulder County calendar is chocked full of local events that offer you a chance to have a holly jolly good time this holiday season. Here are some of our favorites:

Snow Much Fun

Snow Much Fun isn’t an event, per se, but instead a continuous display of lights that shine from November 20th through January 31st. Featuring thousands of holiday lights illuminating various parts of the city, it gives wonderland wanderers a chance to look for themes that include marine life, polar bears, and snowmen. You can follow the route laid out by the recreation department or make up your path, marching to the beat of your own little drummer.

Lights of December Parade

While the Denver Parade of Lights tends to hog the spotlight, Boulder offers its unique version, one that doesn’t require tolerating downtown traffic. The Lights of December Parade takes place on December 2nd starting at 6pm. It features a plethora of holiday floats created by churches, schools, community organizations, businesses, and nonprofits. Of course, Santa will take a break from carbo-loading his reindeer to make an appearance, as well.

Chanukah Menorah Lighting on Pearl

The Chanukah Menorah Lighting takes place on December 11th on Pearl Street and welcomes people of all faiths. Festivities begin at 5:30pm and include music, hot chocolate, Chanukah traditions, and sufganiyot, traditional Jewish donuts that are deep-fried and made with jelly or custard.

CU Boulder’s Holiday Festival

The Holiday Festival takes place on December 8th-10th at the Macky Auditorium on CU’s campus (because Rudolph is no match for Ralphie!). This festival includes an eclectic lineup of choirs, bands, orchestras, opera singers, and jazz musicians. An annual tradition and family-favorite outing, it’s sure to get you into the seasonal spirit by offering an array of holiday music and general merriment.

Boulder Holiday Gift Festival

Whether you’re shopping for loved ones or treating yourself, the Boulder Holiday Gift Festival offers the chance to attend the only holiday craft fair in town. Taking place at the Boulder Mapleton YMCA on December 10th, it features over 100 vendors and enough yuletide cheer to convert even the most steadfast grinch. Admission is free and includes a noon-day concert and other festivities.

You don’t have to go to the North Pole (or even Denver) to jingle your way into the holidays. Boulder offers many chances to take a break from the hustle and bustle and remember what the season is truly all about.
